Über die Jagd in Botswana
For many years, Botswana was known as one of the top dangerous-game hunting countries in southern Africa, with a plethora of elephants, lions, and leopards, as well as a wide variety of plains game inhabiting the country from the scenic Kalahari Desert to the vast Okavango Delta. In 2013, the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, and Tourism issued a ban on hunting in all government and community lands in Botswana, but fortunately, hunting continues on ranches and other privately owned landholdings. The plains-game hunting in this beautiful country is still excellent, with zebra, bushbuck, eland, gemsbok, impala, kudu, red hartebeest, warthog, wildebeest, and waterbuck among the most sought-after species. Hunting here is conducted in a variety of ways: in a traditional safari vehicle, by poling in a mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe, or by walking ancient paths with native Bushmen. Any way you hunt in Botswana, it remains a magnificent, wildlife-rich country.
