If you’ve hunted in Ethiopia, you have had an experience that not many people on this planet can share. Ethiopia is arguably the most exclusive hunting destination in Africa, with less than 50 international hunters visiting it a year. But it’s not only the numbers that make hunting in Ethiopia unique. In terms of unique habitat types and endemic species not found anywhere else, Ethiopia is in a class by itself. Often hailed as the 'Roof of Africa,' Ethiopia is mostly a mountain country. The Simien and Bale mountain ranges reach from 1,500 m. to 4,000 m., with some of the highest peaks in Africa. In the highlands you shall find the mountain nyala, the number one trophy in Ethiopia, as well as other endemic species such as the Ethiopian wolf and the Walla ibex (which can’t be legally hunted). The Great Rift Valley, the cradle of humankind (this is where the oldest remains of Homo sapiens are found) slices through Ethiopia, featuring a string of lakes surrounded by savannahs and lowland areas. The lowlands are also found in the south of the country, and characterized by hot, arid climates. As mentioned, the mountain nyala is the animal that attracts most hunters to Ethiopia. However, there are many other species that are no less unique or beautiful. Melenik’s bushbuck, Neumann’s hartebeest, Soemmerring’s gazelle, lesser kudu and Abyssinian greater kudu, gerenuk, beisa oryx and defassa waterbuck are only a few most important hunting species in Ethiopia. Big Five species such as savannah buffalo, lion, and leopard can also be hunted, although at the time of writing the big cats were not importable to the USA. Hunting in Ethiopia also offers an unparalleled cultural experience, as hunters have the opportunity to interact with local communities and learn about Ethiopia's rich cultural heritage. From ancient Christian traditions in the north to diverse ethnic groups in the south, Ethiopia is a mosaic of cultures that enrich the hunting experience. A trip to Ethiopia brings you back to the youngest days of African safaris. It’s rough, hard, unpredictable, not without an element of danger, challenging and genuine. No wonder that in spite of a hefty price tag hunts in Ethiopia are sold years in advance. Скрыть детали
Распределение цен
Ethiopia is one of the most expensive hunting destinations in Africa, which is the result of its government’s policy, which minimizes hunting quotas and charges exorbitant prices for licenses (up to 15,000 USD for the mountain nyala, payable before the hunt). As a result, outfitters can take no more than 40-45 hunters a year, that is for the whole country, and you can imagine what such an artificial shortage can do to prices.
