Jackal hunting in Ethiopia {{ totalToursString }}
Ethiopia is home to two species of Jackals. There are two subspecies of Side-striped Jackals, namely the Kaffa Side-striped Jackal an endemic to the western regions of the country and the Nile Side-striped Jackal found in the central and northwestern regions of Etiopia. The Nothern Black-backed Jackal subspecies is found country-wide except for the northwestern region of Etiopia.
The Side-striped Jackal is smaller than a coyote and has a greyish-brown coat, highlighted by a white or occasionally dark stripe along its flank. In contrast, the Black-backed Jackal is known for its distinctive black saddle and reddish-orange legs, complemented by a white belly and throat. These jackals usually live in pairs and are known for fiercely defending their territories. In regions where small livestock farming is common, they can become problematic by targeting and killing newborn calves and lambs.
Jackals are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt this species.
