Spot and stalk is the best method of hunting for Oribi. Often seen while driving around the territory. During the stalk you are usually able to use the cover of the long grass on the edges of floodplains, open and montane grasslands where they lie up during the day to your advantage as they graze out into the open on the short grass. The best time to hunt Oribi is in the morning and late afternoon when they are most active. Be alert while walking in the grasslands as they may jump up and run a short distance before stopping to look back, giving you a few seconds to take that shot.

Why hunt Oribi?

One of the biggest of the “Tiny Ten”. Due to their vulnerability from habitat destruction, poaching, marauding dogs and predation, these antelope are decreasing in certain areas. So normally only found in well managed areas and if you ever get the chance to hunt one, you should not turn it down as you are not going to have multiple opportunities to hunt these animals. They make magnificent full mounts and the annual quota is limited and much sought after in South Africa.
