Oribi hunting in Mozambique {{ totalToursString }}
Oribi is a member of the dwarf antelope family. They have long lean necks, slender ears and ginger in colour with a white belly. They have a distinguishing black tail and are larger than a Steenbuck with which they may be confused. Only the males have spiky slightly forward-curving horns.
Oribi is found on the eastern side of the country from around Zinave National Park to just north of the Zambeze River and all along the Zambeze River drainage line.
Oribi is the only small primarily grazing antelope that prefers grasslands, open woodlands and flourishes on floodplains. They favour short green grass grazing areas and will seek refuge in the long grass to avoid predators. When danger approaches they will lay flat on the ground with their ears pinned back and only jump up at the last minute to dash away from a predator. Unfortunately, this behaviour makes them very susceptible to poaching from dogs.
Oribi is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN. A Mozambican hunting license must be purchased before the commencement of your hunt.
