Where to hunt Sharpe's Grysbuck

The Grysbuck species are divided into two subspecies, the Sharpe’s Grysbuck and the Cape Grysbuck. Sharpe’s Grysbuck is the slightly smaller of the two species and is also sometimes referred to as the Northern Grysbuck. They may be hunted in Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the northern parts of South Africa. Visually they look very similar to a Steenbok with a grey speckled coat.

In Tanzania, a Sharpe’s Grysbuck may be hunted on a 16 or 21-day license. Daily Rates for these safaris range from $1650 - 1950 per day with a trophy fee between $ 450 - 600. In Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique you will be required to book a minimum of a 6-10 day hunt, with a daily rate of $600-$700 and pay a trophy fee of $940 in Zambia, $300-500 in Zimbabwe and $1,000-1,600 in Mozambique. When to hunt Sharpe's Grysbuck?

Sharpe’s Grysbuck may be hunted year-round In South Africa and Zimbabwe. In Mozambique, the season is open from April 1 to November 30. The Zambian hunting season runs from the beginning of May to the end of November. In Tanzania, the season is from July to December. The best months for hunting Grysbuck are the dry months of August to October when the vegetation is sparser, the grass is short and visibility at its best.

Being primarily a nocturnal animal, the best hunting time is dawn and dusk when taking to or emerging from cover to feed. The Sharpe’s Grysbuck is generally found in the vicinity of hills where it is easiest to hunt when trying to clamber away over the uneven terrain and giving away its position. It is generally hunted as a trophy of opportunity but avid collectors may even dedicate a full-on hunt to collect this member of the ‘Tiny Ten’.
