Sharpe s grysbuck hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
Sharpe’s Grysbuck may be mistaken for a Steenbuck. These small, shy animals have reddish fawn fur densely intermixed with white hairs. Only the males have horns and they are classified as one of the pygmy antelope in the SCI record book. They have a humped back posture whilst feeding which comes from having a short neck with a relatively long-legged body.
Sharpe’s Grysbuck is found in southern and central Tanzania. They are most commonly hunted in the Selous.
These predominantly nocturnal solitary animals are best-hunted walk and stalk style in the early morning or late afternoon. They live in pairs and demarcate their territories with dung middens which are easier to find than the animals themselves. When running away from danger their gait is more like a hopping motion and they have been known to take refuge in Aardvark holes.
Sharpe’s Grysbuck is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required. A Tanzanian hunting licence must be purchased before the hunt begins.
