- Only booking one hunter or group at a time so the focus is on you.
- Matt does all the guiding; you will never be stuck with an assistant guide.
- All hide prep is done in house saving you money.
- We usually do not use bush planes so you will never be delayed with weather coming and going, and this also lowers our bottom-line price saving you time and money.
- Matt is in the field year-round, so you won't be booking with one of those outfits that only operates 6 weeks out of the year and spends the rest of their time somewhere else.
- Over 7,400 successful trips in the last 25 years.
- Trips are currently being booked for black bear, and grizzly bear, custom trips also available. All hunts are done in extreme wilderness conditions deep in mountain country. You should be in good shape for these hunts, nothing is easy in Alaska, and you have to work for every animal.

90% shot opportunity. This can be a spot and stalk style hunt or over bait. All hunters must be in good shape for this backpack style. This can be a demanding hunt that is very high quality, a real mountain hunt for the real adventurer! Bears on this hunt average 6-foot square with some record book size animals in the area. Baiting season is May and June only. While on this hunt you will be the only hunter in camp and guided by Matt the owner the whole time, no other hunters and no assistant guides ever! All hides and skulls are cleaned and prepped in-house saving you the expediting expense. While there is a limit of 3 bears in this area, we recommend adding extra days if you want multiple bears. $1,300 for second and third bear (Not included in price) Additional charge of $1,500 for baited hunts. Rifle, pistol, long range, archery, and muzzleloader hunters are all welcome.

When people come on trips with me It is usually just one person at a time. I don't add many frills because we are usually totally focused on hunting and nothing else until all tags are filled. What this looks like usually goes as follows. 1. I pick you up at the Anchorage airport or a hotel in anchorage for those red eye flights. 2. We stop off at my house to do paperwork, gear prep and sight check your rifle. At this point in time, you leave all your non field items in your own room at my house. 3. Leave my house for about a 150-mile drive to the hunting area. 4. Walk into the hunting area and hunt for whatever amount of time you reserved or until tags are filled. 5. Once tags are filled, or hunt time is up whichever happens first. then we walk out and head back to my house. 6. Once back at my house we wash up clean and dry gear and finish trophy and meat prep for shipping. 7.Final step is giving you a ride back to the airport or hotel room.

Matt made the time in the field all about what I wanted. The hunt was more than I could expect and will return!

Very organized and dependable
Matt should be at the top of your list for outfitters. I've been hireing guides for over 30 years. You won't find a harder working guide. He has guided hunters sense he was a young man and knows the land and the animals. He also impressed me on how his knowledge of the weather affects the animals. Matt doesn't over book. Matt customized my hunt for me. Care of your trophy is in the hands of someone that really really cares. Very qualified guide with alot of experience!!!

Matt is the real deal, I've never met anyone like him.
Matt has got to be one of the single most qualified guides in the state. His experience and abilities are second to none. If you're looking for a lodge, gourmet meals and taking ATV's down groomed trails - this is NOT it. If you're looking for a real hunt, in the real Alaska, with real game and the truest experience, I would suggest that you wont find as good of an experience anywhere else. Matt was honest, helpful, provided outstanding company, and truly made sure that I had the best experience.
We didn't get our bear - it was a true fluke. We did see several other great animals, but I didn't have tags for them. I wish I had personally been in better shape to allow for longer more challenging hikes and possibly I would have done better.

The Real Deal Adventure
Just wanted to post a review for High Country Guide Service. I just finished my dall sheep/ mountain grizzly hunt with Matt. He is an excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable of the area he hunts and the animals he hunts there. I got a beautiful grizzly and while I did not get a sheep, came very close seeing 3/4 curl in area that is full curl+. Saw lots of game and had a great time. I was in shape and prepared for the hunt which is crucial being a hike in backpack style hunt over very rugged terrain. I have been on several backpack hunts all over Canada and can say with confidence that Matt is the real deal and as good as you can get. Nathan Cropper, Missouri

Great Hunting Experience
Matt the outfitter was excellent. I have been on several guided hunts and Matt is one guy I would definitely hunt with again. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favor and I did not get a Grizzly Bear, but Matt gave it 100% effort. He is a great guy and I cannot wait to hunt with him again!
The only thing about the hunt I did not like is the weather. Spring was late and the Snow was deep. This made the walking and hunting tough. Other than that, I couldn't ask for anything more.

Very experienced guide
Great knowledge of the area and willingness to go the extra mile. Matt made every effort to make a hard, cold Alaska hunt comfortable and positive. We saw moose, a few black bears, caribou, and a Grizzly. Wasn’t the size grizzly I was looking for so we didn’t hunt it. Will Hunt with him again.
