Fringe eared oryx hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
Fringe-eared Oryx look very similar to a Gemsbuck with distinctive black hair tufts at the end of their ears. As with all Oryx, they are relatively muscular with short slender legs. Compared to a greyish Gemsbuck, these animals are more of a faun-brownish colour and have the same black-and-white facial masks.
Fringe-eared Oryx’s distribution is limited to southeastern Kenya and northeastern Tanzania. They may only be hunted in Tanzania and classified as a Masailand special.
Both sexes have long spear-like horns and often the slightly thinner female horns are actually much longer than the bulls, which are forever sharpening their horns and in the process wearing them down. They inhabit semi-arid grasslands, scrubland and Acacia woodlands. Fringe-eared Oryx have incredible eyesight and make for a challenging hunt.
Fringe-eared Oryx are classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required. A minimum of a 21 day license is required to shoot one of these beautiful specimens.
