More about us
Our company was established in 1948 and operates in 1 territory.
- A/Z Outfitters was established in 1948 by Dix Anderson. He began operating up Dutch Creek in the East Kootenays of British Columbia. Amongst the territory, backcountry cabins were built, only accessible by horse. Today, we operate the same way, using horses to pack up gear and hunt the mountains, and old cabins to stay in. In 1990, Bill DuBois bought the territory and continued guiding a variety of hunts including: Elk, Moose, Mountain Goat, Mule Deer, and Black Bear.
- In 2010, Bill’s son, Brent DuBois bought the company and remains the current owner. As of 2016 we have expanded our territory into Toby Creek, meaning we hunt 1100 sq. miles, with about 400 sq miles of this territory being inside the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy with nine cabin camps.
- This is truly a prime trophy hunting destination, a real slice of pristine wilderness that is yours to be seen, featuring Elk, Goat, Bear, Moose, Deer and Cougar hunts. Our impressive game, experienced guides and noble horses are surely provide hunters the hunt of a lifetime.
About this hunt
Our impressive Rocky Mountain Elk have a long history of roaming our territories. These fall hunts are done with our faithful string of horses, cozy cabin camps along Toby and Dutch Creek, and breathtaking views everywhere you turn. After Elk scouting throughout our territory in early September, we get an understanding of the particular areas where the desirable bulls are roaming. A 6 point bull is the legal minimum to hunt. Where we spot these elk will depend on which territory we send you to: Dutch Creek or Toby Creek. These two territories belong to A/Z Outfitters, and are located right beside eachother. Invermere, BC is a central town (for both territories) to stay at the day before your hunt. Day one is spent riding our horses into a cabin camp, which can be an expected 3-6 hour ride through thick timber, open valleys, and rugged landscape. Once we arrive in camp, we settle in, and may even have time for an evening hunt. Our cabin camps have bunk beds with sleeping foamies. Most of our cabins do not have a shower. Our camps do have cook cabins consisting of a fridge, stove and oven. Days 2-8 are spent riding from our cabin camps to various hunting slides. You can expect early mornings riding out to glass, and finding patience for a bull to walk out into the open. Bugling can be a real adrenaline rush- and a skill performed by your experienced guide to call the elk in. Our elk hunts can be challenging, and physically demanding at times. However, your guide will ensure that your needs come first and will be cautious of your mental and physical state. Our biggest goal is for our clients to enjoy their experience. The hunt is YOURS. We do not need a set schedule or routine if you have something else you would prefer. Our guides and wranglers are simply there to support and guide you, and to ensure we are operating legally and safely. Bow hunts available upon request.
