During 45 years in Sitka I have hunted and fished the entire Inside Passage. Growing up in a family dependent on the land and sea, I can put my local knowledge to work, making your excursion into Alaska's breathtaking wilderness both safe and memorable. About this hunt
Black bear hunts take place on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. Prince of Wales Island produces more trophy size black bear than anywhere else in Canada or the U.S. My hunts are BOAT-BASED and spotting and stalking from small skiffs. I hunt the beaches, tidal flats and estuaries for bears. I have been guiding on Prince of Wales for over ten years and every year take one bear with over a twenty one inch skull and have taken several over eight foot squared. The largest skull size was twenty-two and three-sixteenths taken in the fall of 2006. Four (4) hunters taken on the boat based hunts on the M/V Denali. My hunts are boat-based on a fifty-six foot commercial fishing vessel as base camp and then spotting and stalking from small skiffs.
How to get there
You would fly to Ketchikan Alaska, spend one night and take a Float plane to Craig on P.O.W where I would meet you with boat. On return you would spend night in Ketchikan also.

Excellent hunting experience
Amazing Adventure
Had a great week black bear hunting on POW. Jim, Max and Dan are some of the nicest, hardest working people I've ever met. I managed to shoot a large boar on the very first day of the trip. Saw lots of wildlife including sea otters, eagles and even a few humpback whales! Some amazing scenery to look at as well. But one of the best parts of the trip was just hanging out on the boat in the evenings and listening to all of the funny and interesting stories told by Jim and his guides. If you're looking for the real deal adventure in Southeast Alaska, give Jim Phillips a call.

Due to late arrival of one hunter we were unable to fish as planned as much as I anticipated. Fish and hunt a desiirable package and could be a more effective draw
