About this hunt
We pride ourselves on our high success rate and feel it is due to both our regimented annual baiting patterns – starting in the spring and continuing through the fall, along with our management of the resource, and only taking a limited number of hunters each season allowing our bear population to increase each year. We only take a maximum of 4 hunters per week, for 6 weeks so that we are able to manage a successful bear hunt from year to year. After checking in and obtaining your hunting license, you will attend our Saturday evening hunter orientation meeting, where you’ll meet your hosts. You’ll learn how we operate our hunt and together choose a hunt location. We’ll then go over the scenarios and hunting regulations to prepare for the next day’s hunt. You will be guided to your stand, guaranteeing that you will be hunting over an active bait that we have been baiting prior to your arrival. You will be hunting from ladder stands. Most stands are within 20 minutes from the Lodge, so you don’t have to spend hours travelling to and from your stand each day. We have several baits accessible by 2wheel drive vehicles and some baits are accessible by ATV only, so bringing your ATV’s is a great asset to your wilderness experience! When it is time to hunt you follow your guide to your stand who will set up your bait. We do not want you to add any extra scent or change our feeding habits as this could shut the bait down. Bears become comfortable with our scent, but your new human scent at their dinner table will make the bears coming to that bait very wary. We currently are updating our stands with larger one and two person stands to increase the comfort of your hunt. We have 32 stands in place. If a bear is wounded and can’t be recovered this is deemed as a completed hunt. Please ensure all your equipment is proper working order. We have locations to test your firearms and archery equipment prior to the hunt as needed.

Beautiful locale + Knowledgeable Staff = Successful Hunt
Horwood Lodge was an incredible location with great guides who knew everything about the bear population and were more than willing to put in the extra effort or leave you to your own devices, dependent on what you preferred. The private cabins were comfortable and the food was abundant and so good. We fished on downtime, talked to great people, and had a fun week. It ended in a successful hunt when I brought home a beautiful black bear. Exactly what you’d want out of a hunting trip.
Excellent hunting experience
Warner: Extremely knowledgeable, took excellent care of me, and appeared to be extremely interested in locating me a bear and working hard to do so.
Blueberry crop and lack of bears hitting bait sites.
Two Bears in two years
This was my second year in a row going on a bear hunt here and they delivered again! Big bears, great fishing, wonderful hospitality, and a lot of fun!!
