Wildebeest hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
There are six subspecies of Blue Wildebeest in Africa of which only one of those occurs in Zimbabwe.
The (Southern) Blue Wildebeest is found throughout the main hunting concession areas of Zimbabwe. The name Blue Wildebeest comes from the colour of the animal and the name Wildebeest from the Afrikaans (Dutch) translation of the word wild cow. During the mating season, males set up territories by scent marking using their urine and dung middens to demarcate their claimed turf. When fighting for these territories they will often go down on their knees and once an area has been claimed the bull will spend his time herding the females back into his territory to try to prevent the cows from leaving his territory.
Blue Wildebeest are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required.
