Steenbok hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
European hunters often refer to Steenbuck as a “Steinbuck”. These animals derive their name from their reddish brick-coloured coats. They have a very distinctive white underbelly and white inner thighs that are distinctly visible when the animal is running directly away from you. Steenbuck is classified as one of the “Tiny Ten”.
Steenbok (Brick buck) as they are known in Afrikaans, prefer open grasslands and can survive in semi-arid conditions. They are found countrywide except in the extremely dry western desert regions.
Steenbuck, live in pairs and only the male has horns. Any male with horns as long as or longer than the ear can be considered a good trophy. They are normally hunted as a trophy of opportunity during the earlier part of the day. Being a water-independent species, they can be found anywhere. During the heat of the day, they rest up in a clearing under the shade of a tree which provides good visibility.
Steenbuck is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required.
