Sitatunga hunting in Central African Republic {{ totalToursString }}
The Sitatunga in the Central African Republic (CAR) is a semi-aquatic antelope with splayed hooves and a shaggy, water-resistant coat. Males have twisted horns and are darker, while females are reddish-brown with white stripes and spots.
Of the three subspecies, only the Forest Sitatunga is found in the CAR. They are also known as ‘Marshbuck’ and are larger in the body than their southern swamp cousins.
The best place to hunt Sitatunga in CAR is in the swampy and riverine areas of the south-central regions, particularly around the Chinko and Mbomou rivers. These areas provide the ideal wetland habitats for the Sitatunga.
Sitatunga numbers are decreasing but they are still classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt a Sitatunga other than a CAR hunting license.
