Side striped jackal hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
There are eight recognised sub-species of Side Striped Jackal in Africa. The Southern Side-striped Jackal subspecies is a shy animal and is seldom seen and occurs country-wide in Zimbabwe except for the extreme western areas.
Side-striped Jackals have a greyish-brown coat with a distinctive whitish stripe along their flanks and bushy tails. These nocturnal hunters forage alone, feeding on carrion and small prey such as birds, rodents, and hares, and they also consume fruit. Their calls consist of a series of yelps, which differ significantly from the howls of Black-backed Jackals.
Side-striped Jackals are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt this species.
