Sandgrouse hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
Four subspecies of Sandgrouse occur in Namibia. The most widespread being the Namaqua Sandgrouse, followed by the Double-Banded Sandgrouse, Burchell’s Sandgrouse and the near-threatened Yellow-throated Sandgrouse.
These birds are best hunted when in full flight in search of water. Most of these birds are hunted when concentrated around water or along flight paths to the water.
The best time to hunt these birds is:
Namqua Sandgrouse – Found in flocks around waterholes 1-2 hours after sunrise
Double-banded Sandgrouse – Drink at dusk
Burchell’s Sandgrouse – Drink at sunrise
Yellow-throated Sandgrouse – Drink from 07h00 to 10h00.
All these Sandgrouse are listed as species of least concern by the IUCN
