Red lechwe hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
Red Lechwe is a reddish-golden brown, medium-sized antelope, always found near water. This water-loving antelope will even take to the water to seek refuge from predators. They also feed on aquatic vegetation, along the shorelines and out in the open floodplains.
This species was previously only found in the Kavango East and Zambezi regions (Caprivi) of Namibia but has now been introduced to the semi-arid interior regions of the country. These desert areas are not suitable habitats and game ranchers go to great expense to provide artificial feed to ensure their survival. This is the reason why there is such a price difference between animals hunted in their natural habitat and the more expensive animals found on game farms.
When hunting Lechwe you must expect to get your feet wet. They have a habitat for keeping a safe distance when out on the floodplain, so make sure you choose a rifle that is capable of making a long-distance shot.
Red Lechwe is classified as near threatened by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
