Porcupine hunting in Mozambique {{ totalToursString }}
Porcupines are the largest rodents that occur throughout Mozambique. To be correct their full name is African Crested Porcupine.
A Porcupine’s body is covered with long black and white quills that they use as a defence mechanism against predators. Many people think they shoot their quills out to protect themselves which is incorrect. What in fact happens is a porcupine backs itself into its attacker and then the quills stick into the attacker.
Porcupines are mostly solitary nocturnal animals that walk great distances in search of food and can cause great damage to gardens and agricultural crops.
Porcupines are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN but all raw prep Porcupines imported into the USA must be cleared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
