Nyasa Wildebeest is a Blue Wildebeest (Gnu) with a distinctive white stripe across its muzzle. It has the same dull coloured stripes as the Blue Wildebeest also called a Brindled Gnu for this very reason. The horn configuration, mane, beard and tail are black, just like the Blue Wildebeest. Nyasa Wildebeest can be hunted in the southern parts of the country up to the Selous and across the border in Niassa, the most northerly province of Mozambique. Most Nyasa Wildebeest have this white bar across the snout but in some cases, this is absent or barely discernible. They are usually hunted spot and stalk style and can be a very tough animal to bring down, so make that first shot count. If the inside of the curve extends beyond the ears, then you know you are looking at a good trophy. Nyasa Wildebeest are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required. Both Wildebeest species found in Tanzania may be hunted on a minimum of a 7-day hunting license.
