Lechwe hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
Of the six subspecies of Lechwe only the Red Lechwe is found in Nambia. They occur as free-range animals on the floodplains of the Caprivi Strip now known as Zambezi Province and in some inland areas they have been successfully introduced as a game ranching animal.
They stand higher on their hind legs and trot with an unusual gait. It is a medium size antelope, reddish-chestnut brown in colour with black stripes on its forelegs. In its natural environment, it is always found close to water sometimes standing waist deep feeding on floating vegetation. More often than not they are encountered along wetland (vleis) fringes and floodplains feeding on watergrass and other green grass shoots. With their partially splayed hooves, they are able to adapt better to marshy muddy conditions than most other antelope.
Lechwe are classified as CITES II animals and require all the necessary permits before hunting and exportation.
