Hyrax hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
A Hyrax’s claim to fame is being the animal most closely related to an Elephant. These small rabbit size animals live in colonies on rocky outcrops. They are also known as Rock Rabbits or Dassies in Afrikaans.
Hyrax is small stockily built, tailless animals, grey-brown in colour and look very much like a Marmot. They are diurnal animals foraging in the early morning and late afternoon. On a cold morning, they will be found sunning themselves on rock outcrops and ledges before moving from the safety of their nearby dens to go feed.
Listed by the IUCN as a species of least concern.
