Where to hunt Hog
On BookYourHunt.com we follow the standard practice of saying “wild boar” when we are talking about the species in their natural range (Eurasia), and “hog hunting” when we refer to the animal outside it’s natural range (mostly USA). Some wild hogs descend from domestic porkers that somehow escaped the slaughterhouse, others - from original wild boars released by hunting clubs, but whatever the reason, hogs are abundant in the South and parts of the West of the USA.
Price distribution
Hog hunting opportunities start at $200-$300 and continue to just over $1,000. The price often depends on whether or not it includes the use of sophisticated (and expensive) equipment like night vision sights and off-road vehicles. The availability of public land nearby (most guided hog hunting takes place on private land) can also influence the price. Many oufitters offer hogs as a combination hunt together with turkey, deer, and other game.
When to hunt Hog?
Invasive species like hogs are legal to hunt all year round. Most hunters, therefore, prefer to save the regular hunting seasons for other species, and hunt hogs in the off season. Summer can present challenges such as meat preservation, given the heat, and tall standing crops may also be a hindrance. Hunts in December to April, with bare fields and chilly nights, may be the best option. When you have free time and desire to go for an affordable big game hunt, hog hunting is there for you.
