Where to hunt Guineafowl
Guineafowl refers to several medium-sized game bird species native to Trans-Saharan Africa. Three of those species - the plumed, the black and the white-breasted guineafowl - are listed as vulnerable. Their numbers are on the decline and hunting, of course is not allowed. The vulturine guineafowl occurs in North-Eastern Africa. Hunting opportunities for this species exist in Ethiopia, northern Tanzania, and even Kenya (which banned big-game hunting, but bird hunting is still allowed. The crested guineafowl is divided into three subspecies: the Western, the Eastern, and the Southern. The latter two can be hunted in Northern Tanzania, and in parts of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. The most numerous and widespread subspecies is the helmeted guineafowl, found throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
Price distribution
The cost of guineafowl hunting varies depending on the region and the scope of the hunting package. When harvested as a game of opportunity, the trophy fees for guineafowl are usually nominal or even nonexistent; in Tanzania, for example, birds are included in the cost of the standard hunting license. Driven bird shoots in South Africa may go into several hundred to several thousand, but considering the number of drivers and the complications of organizing such a hunt, these hunts usually provide excellent value.

The best time to hunt guineafowl generally aligns with the cooler and drier months of the year, when birds are more active during the day and easier to spot. In Southern Africa, this typically includes the period from May through September. During these months, guineafowl are often found in flocks, roaming the underbrush and providing exciting hunting opportunities.
