Where to hunt Greylag Goose
The greylag goose, the ancestor of domestic geese, is one of the most iconic waterfowl species in Europe and parts of Asia. Known for its large size and striking gray plumage, this bird offers exciting hunting opportunities across its range. That includes the tundras of western Eurasia, where it nests, and the coasts of the Baltic, Northern, Irish, Mediterranean and the Black Sea, where they spend their winter. Eastern Europe, particularly Hungary and Romania, offer excellent hunting opportunities, and the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Sweden are not too far behind.
Preisverteilung
Greylag goose hunts require the outfitter to invest into sizable decoy spreads, quality calls and other equipment, and hire competent guides with lots of local knowledge. With this in mind, goose hunting in Europe is surprisingly affordable. For a hunt without accommodation, but with food and drinks in the field, expect to pay on the order of 400-500 Euro a hunter a day. The hunts, however, are usually sold as a package that includes several hunters and day, so don’t be surprised if the listed price is several thousands.
When to hunt Greylag Goose?
The best time to hunt greylag geese aligns with their migration and wintering periods. In Russia, a short spring hunting season is still allowed, the spring migration believed to be the best time for greylag goose hunting. In the European Union, spring hunting for geese is not allowed, although special crop protection seasons may be in place in countries like Latvia. Across Europe, the season generally runs from autumn to late winter, with peak hunting occurring from October through January.
