Francolin hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
Francolin is the name often used for these Upland birds. This group of birds can officially be divided into two groups. The classified Francolins are Crested Francolin, Coqui Francolin, Red-winged Francolin and Shelley’s Francolin. Originally also classified as Francolin but now falling into the Spurfowl group are Red-billed Spurfowl, Natal Spurfowl, Swainson’s Spurfowl and Red-necked Spurfowl.
Francolins can be hunted throughout the country and certain bird species like Swainson’s Spurfowl can cause great crop damage to newly planted maize (corn) fields.
Hunting Francolin over well-trained dogs is truly an experience to behold. However, most Francolin hunting takes place during a plains game hunt. This rough hunting is a fun way to pass some time and these Francolin's breasts make a good camp starter.
Francolin is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required besides the standard Zimbabwe hunting license which will be arranged by your outfitter.
