Fox hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
There are two Fox species represented in South Africa and that is the Cape Fox and the Bat-eared Fox both of which belong to the dog family.
The Cape Fox is silver-grey and smaller than a Black-backed Jackal and has a very bushy tail. They are solitary nocturnal animals feeding on insects, spiders, birds, reptiles and small mammals like rats and mice. They are best hunted just after sunset when most active.
Bat-eared Foxes have noticeably large ears used to aid their hearing and detect termites and insect larvae underground. These brownish-grey fluffy animals are both diurnal and nocturnal and may be found foraging in family groups of up to six animals.
No CITES permits are required to hunt these animals but a Threatened or Protected Species (TOPS) permit must be issue by the South African conservation authority before the hunt commences.
