About this hunt

This is a 4 day Caribou hunt package with 3 full hunting days We go back to town the evening the last huntingday. This type of hunting is very different from the other trophy hunting companies: on our autumn hunts the hunter participates not only in the ordinary camp work, but also with carrying trophy and meat back to camp. The hunt is done on foot. You have to be in a fairly good condition, so you can walk 5 km out, and 5 km back with 30 kg on your back in varied terrain. From 2026 we use the new ATV trail. We go by car/ATV walk 1 km and sail over a lake to get to camp. You need to bring a sleeping bag. When Caribou are shot, we can use the rest of the hunt for small game hunting. Fishing arctic char in the lake at area 9 is also included. You can bring up to 10 kg with you on your flight out of Greenland (please check meat import rules for your country). All harvested meat is used, either for human consumption, or as dogfood for my dogs depending on the quality. This hunt are more exclusive with just 2 hunters pr hunt, but you can book as a group up to 4 hunters. You can add a extra huntingday, but not as individuals, is all or nobody. You can add a musk-ox, but please notice you have to carry trophy to camp yourself, and its from 35 kg for a shouldermount to 55 kg for a full body, so be realistic and dont book a musk-ox if your not fit for it. On this caribou hunt there is no staff to carry it down for you. On this hunt we are not "locked" to camp, we can go up north to smaller tentcamp where there are more big caribou in the warm period. But you cant add musk-ox there. Success rate

We have about 98 % success rate for caribou, most are large animals. Caribou in our hunting area (sub area 5) is a free-range indigenous north american ”Central barren ground caribou”. But even though it's documented by the Greenland Nature Institute, not all hunting organisations see it that way, so SCI does not accept it into the SCI 29 Award. But Grand Slam Club Ovis accepts it into the Super Slam award. So please check it with you organisation if you are going for a award.

Where you will hunt

Territory

This area is partially in the Inuit hunting World Heritage Site. Concession area 9 is about 24.000 acres, and here we usually hunt from mid-August to the end of september. Besides the concession area itself we also hunt in an area about the same size north of it, all of it is in the World Heritage Site. All of the area is really remote from everything, and there is about 1 hours of driving from the town and about 7 km of walking. So keep in mind that you have to carry your gear to camp and back. And also your trophy on the way back (or pay the guide to do it) From 2025 we can transport luggage and trophy from/to town by ATV, but you still have to walk the 7 km. There might be local meathunters in the area, but no other ourtiftters.

Where you will stay

Camp

Our hunting camp is on the north side of the concession area next to a lake, in the middle of the best hunting terrain for both Caribou and Muskox. The camp has a big heated kitchen tent and smaller sleeping tents. In the kitchen tent there are tables and chairs, cooking facilities and all you need for a comfortable stay. Arctic char fishing is available. There will be 1 guide per 2 hunters, and there will be some work with cutting meat, salting and drying meat, skinning and preservation of trophies, and different camp work. So it's necessary that everybody helps out so that the guides have time enough for everything. We bring normal food, breakfast products, bread and cold meats, and we eat the meat from the animals we shoot, with potatoes and rice etc. After the hunt you stay at Kangerlussuaq Youth Hostel as included in the price.

How to get there

Navigation guidelines

When you fly here, then you travel to Copenhagen airport in Denmark, from there you fly with Air Greenland to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, where we pick you up at the airport. It is possible to fly over Keflavik in Iceland to Nuuk and then Kangerlussuaq. But it can give some problems with delays and luggage, and the price is almost the same. So we do not recommend that route. In 2025 a new airport opens i Nuuk and that will be the main airport, and with better flight conditions than now. So by then it should be easier to get here from north america. US-Iceland-Nuuk-Kangerlussuaq Even thow is possible to fly direct over Copenhagen, its more safe to stay overnight in Copenhagen, and if you come from far away like the US, then 2 nights is better. Its up to you to get here on the correct date. You must bring your home country hunting permit and/or weapons permit. This is required by the hunting adminstration. When bringing your own hunting rifle you also need to bring the weapon papers for that rifle to show at check on with the Airlines. Check in with hunting rifle at AirGreenland takes about 30 min extra because of paperworks, and the weapon has to be handed over at a special counter. But this is not complicated to bring a hunting rifle.

Quality trophy hunt.

9.0 of 10

Guides were very knowledgeable of the area. There was a lot of game and trophy quality animals.

The food was sub par. We ate the same thing every day. I was unaware of the exchange rate between US dollar and Denmark currency. This added an extra 800+ dollars to my trip. Also the cost that the outfitter charged to ship my trophies from Greenland to Denmark seemed higher than the actual cost of shipping. Once an animal is down the guide takes it back to camp. It’s the Hunter’s responsibility to take the trophies out of camp at the completion of the hunt. This hike is extremely difficult and not suited for most hunters. Or you can pay the outfitter. This can be very pricey. The reason why they charge to get your trophies out is because most Foreign hunters do not tip. American hunters tip so there is a bit of confusion. What I did learn is if you pay the guide to take your trophies out the fees that they charge is their tip. I carried my trophies out myself and tipped due to the confusion

Great adventure. Not your average hunt with a lot of physical hiking. Very remote. Expect to do 5 mile hike in and out with your pack. Walking sticks were helpful for the hike in and out. Then 5-12 mile hikes per day for hunts. Guides and helpers were very experienced, friendly and helpful. They will pack out trophies for minimal fee.

Pack for every kind weather but for sure cold wet nights. Cold but manageable/comfortable sleeping huts. Be ready for blisters and wet feet.

Excellent and challenging experience

9.7 of 10

Trophy Hunt Greenland was an exceptional experience. The professional hunters and guides were very knowledgeable and hard working. This was a perfectly challenging hunt but not for the faint of heart. Equivalent to a back country elk hunt in the United States. Ability to hunt small game and waterfowl after our trophies were harvested was as exciting and action packed as the hunt for large game. The variety of game we ate was awesome and delicious.

Hard to find anything to complain about.
