About this hunt

2x1 TAILOR-MADE SAFARI Our Mpumalanga concessions (Loskop Nature Reserve, Ohrigstad Nature Reserve, Verloren Valley Nature Reserve and Mahuse Shongwe Nature Reserve) are in the rugged bushveld of the coastal mountain range running north from Nelspruit to the northern border of South Africa. Average temperatures are from the high 50s F to the high 70s F during hunting season. We hunt mostly by spot and stalk in this savannah bushveld. Some areas also include rolling hills, valleys and picturesque mountains. Hunting in the larger nature reserves is as challenging as hunting in a free-range area. MINIMUM HUNT DURATION: 6 days (5 full hunting days) & 6 nights. The day of arrival is counted as a hunting day and with the departure day, this safari requires a total of 7 days. ADDITIONAL DAYS: Can be booked at the regular rate. HUNTERS: 2 Hunters x 1 Professional Hunter. The quoted price is per hunter. OBSERVERS: Welcome. A minimum of 7 hunting days must be booked for Buffalo, Crocodile and Hippo hunts. We also offer 7-day White Rhino and 14-day Black Rhino hunts. We reserve the right to change any terms, conditions and prices without notice. Rates at the time of the hunt will apply.

Not what I expected.

The camp and the staff.

This buffalo hunt is very different from a bush hunt. Hunting is not exciting. The territory is flat with only large herbs. You can see very far and you have to crawl. The animals come out of the park and are not fearful (as for the zebra hunted afterwards) . The outcome of the hunt would have been very different if the rented rifle had been a 375 instead of a 300. It was the P.H. who killed the buffalo with his huge caliber but not me. It's frustrating. Maybe I should have read the announcement better.

There is a severe drought in Namibia. The area is a floodplain: normally it would be flat with tall grass but with no rain, it did not flood, and no tall grass appeared. The Caprivi is not a bushy area. Free range animals are not fearful as they don't know humans and interact with humans on a frequent basis. Non-trophy hunt was booked, best trophy quality should not be expected. Rifle was an oversight from us.
