Officially, the Tanzanian license price list only recognises one Bush Duiker and one Forest Duiker. These two Duikers are the East African Bush Duiker and Harvey's (Red) Duiker. However, taxonomically there are a few other subspecies. The East African Bush Duiker Grouping has three subspecies listed for the country, the most common being the Nyasa Bush Duiker found across 90% of the country, the Athi Bush Duiker found near Lake Victoria and the Kilimanjaro Duiker found on the mountain with the same name. The name Duiker originated from the Afrikaans (Dutch) name of Duikerbok with reference to an antelope or goat and some say duiker (which means diver in Afrikaans) refers to the diving motion that the animal takes when in full flight. Harvey's Duiker is a small heavyset Forest Duiker, reddish in colour with dark-coloured legs and face. They also have longer horns than their (Natal) Red Duiker cousins. Both Duikers are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN and can be hunted on a 16-day Tanzanian hunting license.
