Dik-diks are divided into four species and two groupings. The only Dik-dik that is found in Namibia is known as the Dama or Damaland Dik-dik and falls into the Long Snouted Dik-dik grouping. In fact, this Dik-dik is one of 7 subspecies of Kirk's Dik-dik according to scientific research. The SCI record book only shows Kirk's Dik-dik as available for hunting in East Africa. For the true collector, these Kirk Dik-diks show a significant colour range from pale yellow in Namibia to a rich red in East Africa. The Damarland Dik-dik has a noticeable long snout, but not as long as a Gunter's Dik-dik found in East Africa. They are hunted in northern central Namibia and are commonly seen whilst on a game drive in Etosha in the Namutoni region of this iconic Namibian National Park. Hunting is not permitted within the National Park and Dik-dik can only be hunted on private land and community concessions in the region. This endemic species to Namibia is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and requires no special hunting permits or licenses.
