Where to hunt Brown Hyena
The rarest of the African Hyena species. The Brown Hyena is equally at home in the Namib Desert of Namibia to the semi-arid Mountains of the Waterberg in South Africa. An incredibly shy nocturnal animal which often lives undetected in close proximity to man. Found from Southern Angola, Namibia, Botswana, North and Western Zimbabwe as well as Northern and Central South Africa. It can only be hunted in Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.

In Zimbabwe you will be required to book a minimum of a 7-10 day hunt, with a daily rate of $600-$700 and pay a trophy fee of approximately $1,600-2,000. In addition it will cost you another $1,500 for a special permit to hunt this animal in Zimbabwe. In Namibia and South Africa, the daily rates range from $350-$450 per day with a trophy fee of $900-3,800. You will also incur an additional cost for a TOPS permit in South Africa.
When to hunt Brown Hyena?
Hyena may be hunted year round In South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Namibian hunting season is from February 1 to November 30. The best months to hunt Hyenas are the cooler winter months especially if you are baiting as the baits last longer before going really rancid even though hyenas are not averse to eating really rotten meat. Also try to avoid drought periods where dying and dead animal carcasses litter the countryside. Lambing and calving season should also be avoided when afterbirths and easy to kill lambs are plentiful. During these periods Hyenas will not respond well to baiting when all this carrion is readily available
