Bushpig has a similar social structure to European Wild Boar. These reddish-brown pigs are dominated by a boar and piglets are born brown with yellow stripes. Sounders feed at night and rest up during the day in thick undergrowth or long grass, often near water. Bushpig can be hunted throughout the country with the highest density of Bushpig being found in the hunting coutadas (concessions), especially those with dense vegetation and delta floodplains. In the drier areas Bushpig is often hunted over bait but in places like the Zambezi Delta beaters are used to beat the long grass around the scattered pans. This makes for an exciting hunt as you never know when a pig is going to burst from the undergrowth. These pigs take off at full speed and are shot while on the run. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required. However, Bushpig trophies exported to the USA need to comply with the USDA trophy import regulations.
