Black backed jackal hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
Black-backed Jackals are like small Coyotes. Of the two Jackal subspecies found in Namibia, the Black-backed Jackal is the most common and found across the entire country thus making them the most commonly hunted Jackal in the country. This Jackal has tawny red flanks and a black saddleback, hence the name Black-backed Jackal.
Most landowners consider these animals as vermin and have a shoot on sight policy. Numerous outfitters offer this species free of charge to encourage hunters to shoot these animals. Jackals can become extremely cunning when pressured by hunters.
Jackals are primarily nocturnal animals and may still be found out and about on the prowl for food in search of food in the early morning. They have a varied diet from fruit to carrion and will also catch live prey from rodents to small lambs. They will respond to predator callers where not used excessively and the animals have become gun shy.
Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
