About this hunt

100% free range/ fair chase Tahr foot hunt – cabin style accommodation in the Southern Alpine mountains at $3650 limited time offer for the months of October, November, December , January and February ONLY. This deal is only available for the summer months listed above! Southern Alps includes New Zealand’s best and most exclusive hunting grounds for Himalayan tahr (also called tahr) and alpine chamois. Our hunting methods match the level of fitness of individual hunters. We can take a helicopter daily from comfortable lodgings, or do wilderness spike camps. We also utilize private land concessions where access is by 4WD and accommodation is in alpine cabins - some complete with hot showers. Himalayan tahr were transplanted to New Zealand in 1904 and they have thrived in a habitat that is very similar to their native home in the Himalayan mountains. Tahr can be hunted all year round; however their pelts are at their best from May to September. Their rut period is May/June/July, during this time larger bulls are easier to locate as they join with the nannies. The Himalayan tahr in his full winter glory, with golden mane flowing in the wind, is arguably one of the most impressive game animals in the world. Their habitat makes them one of the most challenging and rewarding trophies to obtain. Hunting tahr is the highlight of many hunters’ visits to New Zealand. Helicopter access can be arranged to the tahr and chamois hunting areas at an additional $2500 USD p/hour.

Bucket list hunt!

10.0 of 10

Assume hunt, From the first contact with Joy to getting dropped off by Tim. They were both amazing people. Hunting out of the tin shack at the foothills and chasing tahr was on my bucket list for years. The service they provided were second to none! We saw lots of animals and both my hunting partner and I were successful in our hunt. Thanks Joy and Tim – We will be back!

Really there was nothing that sticks out that was not fun or enjoyable! Airlines lost my hunting gear on the way out there but Joy took the time with the airline and we had it on the next flight which only delayed us 2 hours and no hunting time.

Free range Tahr

10.0 of 10

The free range Tahr hunt in the southern Alps was the full experience I was looking for. Accommodations were excellent from the alpine cabin in the mountains to the lodge for the fallow deer hunt. Tim, my guide was knowledgeable, and took care of everything. Food was great, scenery was great! Lots of animals in the valley we hunted.

No complaints

Unforgettable hunt of a lifetime

10.0 of 10

Booking was an absolute breeze thanks to Joy & Tim was super accommodating for my hunt. Anything and everything I wanted to tackle in my 4 day hunt was taken care of and more! I’ve never had so much fun in my life. As a Canadian using thermal gear and spotlights was really cool and I couldn’t get enough we hunted day and night, Tim had top of the line equipment ensuring no target was walking away. My hunt was jammed pack with action with a ram, goats/wallabys/deer/hares/possums/boars. I can’t wait to come back for years to come.

My face hurts from smiling from smiling the whole time during the hunt/stay with New Zealand Trophy Hunting.
