Waterbuck hunting in Namibia {{ totalToursString }}
Waterbuck have long heavy set forward pointing horns and a trademark white ringed rump. They are a water dependent species, often found on the flood plains but are as equally at home in rocky hilly terrain.
In Namibia, Waterbuck mainly occur as a game ranched animal where they have been introduced as a sought after huntable species. Being predominantly a long grass grazer, means that their preferred habitat restricts them to the less arid regions of northern and central Namibia.
Waterbuck have good eyesight and a keen sense of smell. Their long shaggy coat is protected by a musky smelling oily secretion which acts as a water repellent. For this reason their venison was not very sought after but if slaughtered correctly and if the fur does not touch (contaminate) the meat during the skinning process, there is nothing wrong with the meat.
Waterbuck are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required.
