Spotted hyena hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
Spotted Hyenas are the most common hyena species on the continent. Named after the black spots on a yellowish-brown coat. They stand high on the shoulders with a sloping back and have an ungainly walk and gait. They are also known for their incredible bone-crushing jaws.
Spotted Hyenas are found countrywide and in the Ngorongoro Crater and are recognised as the park's apex predator.
Spotted Hyenas are known for their remarkable stamina and when hunting as a clan can be highly successful and competent hunters although always referred to as scavengers. Being the most abundant large carnivore in the country, they are very territorial animals and fight for dominance to hold down a territory.
Although Spotted Hyena numbers are declining, this species is classified of least concern by the IUCN. Prearranged licenses must be purchased before the hunt commences.
