Southern impala hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
There are five recognised subspecies Impalas of which two occur in Tanzania. The Southern Impala is represented by the Nyasaland or Johnston’s Impala and occurs in the Southern part of the country.
The East African Impala, a Tanzanian special has much longer and thicker horns and is classified as a Masailand Special. The Southern Impala can also be hunted in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa.
Impala is a commonly hunted antelope and occurs in large numbers throughout their range. Being such a common animal makes them the primary prey species for all of Tanzania’s predators and also used by hunters as camp venison and as leopard baits.
Southern Impala is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required.
