Side striped jackal hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
There are eight recognised subspecies of Side-striped Jackal found in Africa. The East African Side-striped Jackal is a particularly elusive and shy subspecies, rarely seen. Their range extends over the entire of Tanzania.
Side-striped Jackals have a greyish-brown fur with a prominent whitish stripe along their sides and bushy tails. They are nocturnal predators that typically hunt alone, scavenging carrion and preying on small animals such as birds, rodents, and hares, as well as eating fruit. Their vocalisations consist of a series of yelps, which are quite distinct from the howls of Black-backed Jackals.
Side-striped Jackals are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt this species.
