Side striped jackal hunting in Ethiopia {{ totalToursString }}
In Africa, there are eight recognised subspecies of the Side-striped Jackal. Two of these subspecies, the Kaffa and Nile Side-striped Jackals are found in western and northwestern Ethiopia, respectively. They are shy and seldom-seen animals.
Side-striped Jackals have a greyish-brown coat, characterized by a distinctive whitish stripe along their flanks and bushy tails. These nocturnal hunters typically forage alone, feeding on carrion and small prey such as birds, rodents, and hares, as well as fruit. Their calls consist of a series of yelps, which are notably different from the howls of Black-backed Jackals.
Side-striped Jackals are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, and no special permits are required to hunt them.
