The Serval in Tanzania is a slender, medium-sized wild cat with a distinctive golden-yellow coat marked with black spots and stripes. Known for its long legs and large ears, the serval is an agile hunter primarily active during dawn and dusk.
Eighteen recognised subspecies occur in Africa, and only one subspecies occurs in Tanzania, the Eastern, Ukamba or Tanzanian Serval.
The best place to hunt serval in Tanzania is in the Selous Game Reserve and the surrounding areas. These regions offer optimal habitats and are well-regulated for sustainable hunting practices.
Serval is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt a Serval other than a Tanzanian hunting license.
