Red duiker hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
Red Duikers in Tanzania are brighter and more rufous red than their southern counterparts. They are classified as a pygmy species by Safari Club International. The females are larger than the males and both species have horns often hidden by a prominent crest of chestnut brown hair on their forehead.
Red Duikers are found from Masailand, eastwards and all the way south along the east coast to the southern border with Mozambique and inland as far as the Selous.
Red Duiker is mostly diurnal, sleeping in thickets during the day and very active at dawn and dusk. They are often found foraging in association with monkeys that drop food, like fruit, berries, flowers and leaves onto the ground from the trees above. They are typically solitary and let out a sharp whistle of an alarm call and then rush for cover.
Red Duiker is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special import or export permits are required. Red Duiker may only be hunted with a minimum of a 16 - 21 day Tanzanian hunting license.
