Leopard can be one of the most frustrating animals to hunt as you need to lure it to you rather than pursuing it like most other animals. They are shy, nocturnal animals with an acute sense of hearing and smell, often detecting any movement and scent from a hunter hidden in a blind. Most leopards are hunted over bait. Zimbabwe offers some of Africa’s finest leopard hunting. Leopards can be hunted throughout the country except the central plateau, the agricultural heartbeat of the country. The country boasts many hot spots from the Matobo Mountains to the Zambezi Valley. Leopards are locally known as “Mr Spots”. The laws pertaining to the hunting of leopards depend on which safari hunting area you are in. The hunting of leopards in a Zimbabwe Parks Safari area may only take place half an hour after sunrise and half an hour before sunset. Leopards may be hunted at night in community areas and on private land. Once a special permit has been issued, a hound hunt may be arranged on private land. Only mature “Tom” cats may be hunted. Classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, CITES permits and a prearranged license are required before the commencement of your hunt.
