Honey badger hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
Honey Badgers have very thick, loose skins that protect them from large predator bites and give them attitude. If you have a run-in with a badger you should surrender and get the hell out of there no matter what your size. Honey Badgers have short sturdy legs and feet with strong claws which they use to dig holes or break open old rotten logs to find food.
Honey Badgers occur countrywide but are more likely to be encountered in the drier western regions and Zambezi Valley areas. They are hunted as a trophy of opportunity and often taken by hunters sitting over bait waiting for a Lion or Leopard to arrive on the baiting site. They can climb trees and will make a determined effort to reach a hung bait.
These mostly nocturnal omnivores feeding on anything from insects to snakes and carrion. They often work in conjunction with a bird called a “Honeyguide” to detect and raid beehives. The bird benefits from the scraps and grubs leftover from the honeycomb.
Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no import or export CITES permits are required.
