Common reedbuck hunting in Tanzania {{ totalToursString }}
Two species of Reedbuck occur in Tanzania, the Bohor Reedbuck and the Common Reedbuck. Only one subspecies of Common Reedbuck, namely the Northern Common Reedbuck is found in the country. Their distribution extends through the western, central and southern regions of the country.
Common Reedbuck are the largest of the three species. This antelope’s colouring and size very much resemble those of a Whitetail Deer, even sharing some of the same traits. Only males have horns with a pulpy base.
Common Reedbuck are often found near water, resting up during the heat of the day in reedbeds or in long grass. They also give a unique high-pitched whistle as when alarmed.
Common Reedbuck are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
