Lone Buffalo bulls known as “Dagga Boys” must be one of the most cantankerous and dangerous animals to hunt especially with a bow and arrow. These hunts are always treated with respect no matter how big your rifle, a Buffalo is never dead until in the salt. Pulling the trigger on a Buffalo is probably the most exciting African hunt but the experience can vary enormously from hunting a Buffalo in a small territory to a traditional tracking hunt on a large territory. Buffalo of all shapes and sizes are available throughout the country on numerous properties, you need to decide on what sort of experience you are looking for. Both sexes have horns. Cows may be hunted but bulls are preferred for their widespread horns and heavy bosses. Generally, Buffalo are too expensive to hunt for their meat and as is the case with most trophies hunted once past their prime, their meat is tough and mostly turned into biltong, a type of salted jerky. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
