Bushpig hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
Bushpig, Africa’s equivalent of the European Boar, are reddish-brown in colour and have a similar social structure. Sounders are dominated by a boar and sows produce the most amazing brown piglets with yellow stripes. This nocturnal animal rests up during the day in thick cover or long grass.
Bushpig can be hunted throughout the country and are classified as an agricultural pest where they cause exceptional damage to crops and especially maize (corn). These pigs are mostly hunted over bait at night and sometimes shot as a trophy of opportunity during a walk and stalk when bursting out from cover or found sleeping under a tree during the day. In some areas, beaters may also be used to flush these pigs and hunters then shoot them on the run.
Bushpigs are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required. When exported to the United States special USDA trophy importation regulations will apply.
