Bushbuck hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
Bushbuck are the smallest members of the spiral-horned antelope group with habits very similar to a White-tailed Deer. Generally the mature males have shiny coats with sharp majestic horns. They are solitary animals with keen eyesight, very alert, and bark like a dog when sensing danger. Bushbuck are always found near water in dense thickets, feeding at night, early morning and the late afternoon.
Two subspecies of Bushbuck may be hunted in South Africa. The dark coloured Cape Bushbuck is found in the coastal forests, thickets and inland forests of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. The reddish coloured Limpopo Bushbuck can be hunted in the riverine thickets and denser vegetation of the Limpopo and North West Provinces.
They are attracted to planted pastures and agricultural crops during the dry winter season. Wounded males can be very aggressive and known to attack hunters. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
